  I must lead a sheltered life because I never heard of him before. My opinion is that he is either very gullible or putting spin on what he says. The whole Jehovah's name thing is quite silly because if he did a limited amount of research he would know it was an incorrectly translated name (a hybrid name) that many religious people feel the witnesses are welcome to.

  Anyone who has done any research on cults would know that it is common for cults to have 100% unity on their faulty beliefs.

  Since leaving the witnesses I have been to lots of churches of many denominations and I haven't seen one yet where race was an issue so they haven't cornered that market.

  If he believes in the Bible and undstands what it says about false prophets and has an understanding of the track record of the Watchtower and it prophecies then he would have to label them false prophets.

  I can't believe anyone would take this guy serious but I guess he feels very scholarly and important so let him have his fun.

  I feel sorry for the guy who wrote this. He sounds like he really believes it.

  To speak against Jehovah's appointed representatives is apostacy

  I got a kick out of the above line. If you ask this guy where he got the information that shows they are Jehovah's appointed reps he would tell you from them. There is no evidence Jehovah appointed them other than they say he did.

  Hi I Wonder,

  Nice to meet you. I feel bad that you and others here have to go through this. All I can say is take your time. Read what others have done and eventually you will be able to plan an escape route. (It is so odd speaking this way most people who don't have contact with the cults wouldn't even believe this sort of thing happens). As for counting time a lot of witness lie about what they do or figure out ways to count time by sticking magazines in laudromats and things like that. Also if you feel you have been put in a position where you are forced to peddlle lies what is wrong with lying about the time spend peddling those lies to those who are printing the lies. It seems like one big farce to me anyway.

  About this comment you made: "Jesus sent the apostles door to door, we also need to be doing the same"

  I know there are two scriptures they use but I can only remember one Acts 20:20. In context Paul was referring to himself going to the houses of other believers. This has nothing to do with going to strangers doors to convert them. These were more what I guess you would call sheparding calls.

  What have you been up to?

  life as a jw is very...well...sheltered.

  many experiences are outright condemned.

  still, when others don't have specific rules against them, we more often than not, at least i did, choose not to engage in them so as not to stumble someone who would not approve.. very soon after my exodus from the wt i decided that life is an adventure.

  I quit!

  I had already done most of the negative things before I became a jw so I didn't go overboard on that. I surf and skied while I was a jw but the nice thing was not having to get up a three in the morning to go surfing so I could go out in service on saturday morning. I did start reading books by Stephen KIing and other horror rights after I left. I always liked those things but as a dub it was looked down on. I guess the most important things I did once I left was buy a house and start saving for retirement.

  An anniversary of sorts today

  i didn't realise it, but trev just told me that today is one year to the date since i first visited him at his home to do some research on the internet about the wts.

  i hadn't been going to all the meetings for a while at that time, and the month before i came here i hadn't been at all, but was unsure, despite my doubts, whether i wanted to leave the jws then or not.

  i read on quotes, freeminds and this site, and trev printed some stuff for me to read later.

  i am finding it to be very insightful into why jobs are being sent overseas.

  Thanx for the replies. One of the things I liked best when I left the tower was being able to read whatever I wanted without worrying about what anyone would say.

  Generation change?

  hello all.. forgive my ignorance, but what exactly was the generation change, and what are the implications for jw doctrine?.

  although i rarely missed a meeting until a couple of years ago, this either went over my head or i wasn't listening (most likley).. i'm not the sharpest tool in the box so please keep it simple!

  When I was in the tower I seem to remember them saying that the generation referred to would have to be old enough to understand the events that happened in 1914 in other words born around 1900 or shortly there after. Here is a quote from "Witness of Jehovah by Leonard & Marjorie Chretien where they are quoting from the Oct 8, 1968 Awake pages 13, 14: ""the watchtower was stating that the "generation" was approximately 70 years old and that the youngest member of the 1914 generation would have been around 15 years of age in 1914. Clearly they were stating that the "generation" was born at the turn of the century.""

  It was funny - this guy was posing on the pier for??(no one around) He was stretching and posing up a storm as if a large crowd of women were ogling him, but I was too late in snapping his pic during one of his GQ poses.

  If I couldn't tell by anything else his trunks would have told me it wasn't taken around here. There is an unwritten law against wearing them on our local beaches with a few exceptions.
